Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome, freely adapted by Ethan Dillon
Cork Arts Theatre (2019)
A story of adventure and divilment. Jerome K. Jerome’s classic novel Three Men In A Boat sees the hypochondriacal J and his two hapless friends rent a boat and take a trip down-river to get a break from their stressful lives. How they settled on a boat trip is up for debate, it seemed like a great idea at the time! They explore the watering holes, meet the locals and get up to all sorts of antics as they attempt to live the good life and reconnect with their Cork roots.
This stage adaptation captures the humour and whimsicality of the original novel transforming it for modern theatre audiences to enjoy.
Director Mags Keohane and writer and performer Ethan Dillon first worked together on a student production of Serious Money by Caryl Churchill which won Best Ensemble and Best Set at the Irish Student Drama Awards 2012. As part of the Granary Theatre’s New Director’s Festival 2015 they collaborated on Made in China by Mark O’ Rowe – “a coarse and sleazy slice of Dublin given Cork edge” (Irish Examiner).
